Indian Independence Week

For the American Independence Week, I wrote two stories that roughly carried the independence theme…

Joy through the independence week

This was the story of my contractor and his wife, who have a unique “independence week” tradition, that turned into an “independence month” this year.

Helping Jade move on

This was the story of Jade, a troubled daughter of a manipulative mother and a traveling father. She needed help gaining independence from the scars of the past.

I am going to carry the “Independence” theme for the Indian Independence Week as well. The two stories this week — also around women in my life — are of two women who sought independence from the same man, in their own unique ways, for their own different reasons. While the stories are about the two women, the true protagonist in both these stories is the guy — someone I once considered a friend.

Sometimes I feel, this generation lives with a sense of entitlement — don’t want to wait for our due, want everything now, don’t want to work towards anything — everything is expected to come easy. Many with this attitude face an issue of integrity and lack the ability to grit their teeth, work through tough times and come out stronger. Instead of raising the next generation of world beaters, I often wonder whether we are creating a generation of impatience, mediocrity, and self-centered arrogance.

The male protagonist — who stays in the background — in this weeks stories is an example of what I fear for the nation I proudly call my motherland. I know you aren’t here for a rant on moral sciences, so I will stop venting.

Hope you enjoy the stories and if they leave a message of morality for even one reader, I’d consider it an achievement.

In parting, I’d like to share a mantra I try to live by: Give the love you expect in return.

What goes around comes around…
