Ten Dusky Days

In the recent past, there have been two incidents in the US, of excessive force by white law enforcement officers towards black citizens. There are wide-spread protests and riots across the US against these incidents. “Black Lives Matter” has taken the net by storm from social media to even Amazon. People from all walks of life have been coming forward expressive solidarity with the protesters.

While I agree that EVERY life matters (not just black lives), I personally feel the protesters are hurting the cause rather than helping them. The violence was caused by two corrupt and racist individuals — not by the entire law enforcement fraternity.

I have also been disturbed by Bollywood personalities coming forward in support after staying silent through the politically polarizing events that have plagued the country since last year. These are the same celebrities that endorse fairness creams and fuel the divide against the dark skin.

As a human being, I have been doing a lot of introspection while trying to recover the lost data from a crashed hard drive. Discrimination is not new. From religious and caste discrimination to male dominance of the female gender to socio-economic discrimination, it has always been around in one form or the other.

While every form of discrimination disturbs me, I am most ashamed of the discrimination against women because it manifests itself in ugly, criminal and the most heinous of violations a person can do against another human being. The number of requests I get for forced sex, backmail, humiliation and other acts that objectivise women is disturbing.

In celebration of every form of diversity — from skin color and religion to gender and sexual orientation, I dedicate the next 10 days to dusky women, who I believe are as beautiful or more, than their fairer skin counterparts.

Beauty is a perception. What we deem beautiful someone else may not. But to generalize that fair is beautiful and dark isn’t shows small mindedness and a closed mind.

A lot of my readers may disagree, and even call me a hypocrite because I write erotica, but I don’t care. I celebrate love and sex through my stories, not discrimination. I neither write nor endorse any illegal activity. I respect and love women too much to not take a stand. I welcome those who agree with me to voice your views in the comments.

Let’s celebrate the stronger gender through the next ten dusky days!
